Ripley celebrates the opening of the swimming season in a big way. The City has a new splash pad, new tennis courts, a new basketball court and other amenities.
The 10-2 event features inflatables, remote control car demos, free swimming and a DJ.

West Virginia's Chess Association is the sponsor of an event in the Ripley Senior Center, 121 S. Court Street. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the competition is from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Entry fee is $25.

Ohio State's Micah Jordan, an NCAA runner-up, is having a clinic at Gymfinity, 231 Straight Street. Hours are from 10 a.m. until noon and from 1-3 p.m. The fee is $50.

'Swift Justice' Book Signing
A new book is available about an historic Jackson County event.
"Swift Justice" by Merrilee Matheny details the 1897 events of John F. Morgan's triple murder. He was captured, went on trial, escaped from jail, re-captured, and hanged in about a month.
A book signing is set in the Jackson County Pulic Library in Ripley from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 15.
